Company History

Raymond G. Butchko, as a young man, worked in his father’s garage in Smock, Pa.  After his father’s death, he began working in the coal mines then changed jobs to work for the B&O Railroad.  During WW2, Ray served in the Navy as chief of the motor pool.  He was in several major battles in the South Pacific.  Upon his discharge from the Navy, Ray resumed work for the railroad as a fireman.  Seeing a brighter future for their families, in 1951, he and his brother Paul began what is now known as Butchko Bros., Inc. in a small garage behind their mother’s home along a two lane Route 119.

In 1959, we were the first in this area to purchase and utilize a flat-bed tow truck for hauling vehicles.  Ray was criticized by fellow auto salvers on his purchase. They all said this truck was not practical to the salvage industry, lo and behold, 49 years later everyone has a flat bed truck.  Ray was a man who saw potential in new innovations for the salvage industry and he tried many.

 Butchko Bros., Inc. was also one of the first auto recyclers in the area to become computerized. All of our vehicles and parts are completely inventoried and tagged using the computer interchange system. Our business consists of several warehouses, four delivery trucks, two flatbed car haulers, and 14 employees. Today, Butchko Bros., Inc. is proud to be one of the Tri-State area's leading businesses specializing in new and used auto and truck parts.

Ray operated the business from 1951 through 1999, the time of his death, when the business was passed on to his daughter, Diana Omatick. Diana notes, “Dad would be proud to see his business continue to grow into one of the finest auto recycling businesses in the area.  Customer’s make our business and over the years we have been blessed with several generations of customers, who we like to call our friends."
